USEFUL INFORMATIONS

  • Metro Operating Hours

    • The Amsterdam metro (operated by GVB) runs daily from 6:00 AM to 12:30 AM, with trains approximately every 10 minutes.


    Main Lines and Coverage

    There are 4 metro lines:

    • Line 50 (Yellow): Isolatorweg ↔ Gein

    • Line 51 (Purple): Amsterdam Centraal ↔ Isolatorweg

    • Line 53 (Green): Centraal ↔ Gaasperplas

    • Line 54 (Red): Centraal ↔ Gein
      The metro is especially useful for reaching suburbs and some southern areas. Trams and buses are more commonly used in the city center.


    Key Tourist Stops

    • Centraal Station: main hub for metro, regional trains, and international travel (including to Schiphol).

    • Nieuwmarkt / Waterlooplein: close to the old Jewish Quarter and historical center.

    • Amstel Station: access to the Amstel district and connections to trains heading to Utrecht and Arnhem.

    • Major museums (e.g., Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh) are not served directly by metro but are well-connected by tram.


    Schiphol Airport Connections

    • Company name of the shuttle bus: Connexxion (operated by Amsterdam Airport Express)
      Name/Number of the Bus: 397 (daytime) or N97 (night service)Main departure points:

      • At the Airport: Schiphol Airport, Bus stop B15–B19, located right outside the main arrivals hall (Plaza).
      • In the city: Amsterdam Elandsgracht Bus Station (main city terminal).

      Timetable:

      • Bus 397: from 05:30 AM to 12:00 midnight
      • Bus N97 (Night Bus): from 12:00 midnight to 05:00 AM
      • Runs approximately every 15 minutes

      Stops:
      Schiphol Airport – Amstelveenseweg – Olympisch Stadion – Haarlemmermeerstation – Emmastraat – Museumplein – Rijksmuseum – Leidseplein – Busstation Elandsgracht


    City Trams and Buses

    • Trams: run from around 6:00 AM to midnight, slightly later on weekends. High frequency.

    • Day buses: same hours as trams, serving wider areas including outskirts.

    • Night buses (GVB):

      • Lines N85 and N87 run every night.

      • Other lines (N81–N84, N88–N89, N91, N93) operate on weekend nights.

      • N86 is an express night bus on weekends.
